Seven Glengarrians Honoured at Volunteer Celebration
CORNWALL, ON -- In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, on April 9, Roy and Cher’s Rescue Farm
held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. At the NAV Centre in Cornwall, several awards were
handed out to deserving volunteers.
Seven of the recipients were from Glengarry: George Parker, Dianne Manser-Wallace, Steve Gravel,
Danielle Rivard, Alex Bordeaux, Nelly Guettinger and Heather MacIntosh.
“We have over 30 volunteers throughout Eastern Ontario. They are all amazing. We couldn’t do what we
do without our volunteers,” said Angie Parker, Roy and Cher’s Director of Operations. “Roy and Cher’s
was founded in 2013 and every year we grow, which means we are continuously recruited more
volunteers. Unfortunately, there are so many animals that need assistance; we need everyone’s help.”
Every year at Roy and Cher’s Volunteer Appreciation Celebration, awards are presented to outstanding
volunteers and sponsors to honour accomplishments from the previous year.
2018 Awards:
Cindy Ladouceur Memorial Volunteer of the Year (Sponsored by Jet Set Pub): George Parker
Most Outstanding Volunteer: Bernadette Wylie
Most Dedicated Volunteer (Sponsored by Jet Set Pub): Dianne Manser-Wallace

Two years ago, Roy and Cher’s named its Volunteer of the Year award in honour of Cornwall resident
Cindy Ladouceur, Roy and Cher’s 2014 Volunteer of the Year, who passed away of cancer on November
26, 2016. “Cindy had a huge heart,” explained Parker. “She cared greatly for the feral cats who lived on
her street. She helped find homes for numerous kittens and strays. She wouldn’t let a homeless cat
starve. We all miss her very much.”
This year Roy and Cher’s added a new honour, Commitment to Fundraising, which was named after Judy
Godard, who passed away February 17, 2019.
Godard was the grandmother of Ryleah, a Roy and Cher foster, and Mikayla, Roy and Cher’s 2018 TNR
Coordinator, a summer position which was funded by Canada Summer Jobs. “Judy was always
concerned about the animals. She would often check in with her granddaughters to see how the animals
were doing,” said Parker. “Judy would donate amazing baked goods for our fundraisers. She had a
beautiful soul.”
Roy and Cher’s would like to thank it’s sponsors of the celebration: NAV Centre, Jet Set Pub, Petsmart,
and Bob-T Tack Shop.

Over $1,500 raised for Spay & Neuter Program
PRESS RELEASE
BAINSVILLE, ON – Roy and Cher’s Rescue Farm raised $1,514 at its 3rd Annual Bowling for the Animals fundraiser, Sunday, April 30 at Nativity Lanes in Cornwall. Over 50 bowlers participated in the event.
Funds raised support Roy and Cher’s Spay & Neuter Program which assists cats throughout Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec. Through TNR (trap-neuter-return), Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue Team humanely traps feral and stray cats and has them spayed/neutered, vaccinated and examined.
Since July 2013 Roy and Cher’s has assisted many cats, horses, guinea pigs, dogs, and goats, as well as a gecko, rabbit, and a domesticated turtle. Its adoptions program has seen over 175 animals find forever homes. In addition, the Spay & Neuter Program has ensured that over 85 feral and stray cats are no longer breeding. Just imagine how many kittens would be out on the streets if those cats were still able to breed!
Furthermore, through feral cat relocation, Roy and Cher’s relocates cat colonies from city streets to rural barns and its researchers are currently mapping the locations of these feral cat colonies using GIS to get a better understanding of numbers, in hopes of concluding that the Spay & Neuter Program is actually working in the area.
Roy and Cher’s Rescue Farm was founded July 2103 has since assisted almost 300 animals, including four horses. One of the horses is a permanent resident with Roy and Cher’s and is part of the education program. The other three horses have found forever homes.

Roy and Cher's Raises $1,200 for Animals
PRESS RELEASE
Lancaster, ON – Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue hosted its 3rd Annual Book and Bake in conjunction with Lancaster’s Annual Village Yard Sale on Saturday, July 18. The organization raised $1,200, surpassing its goal of $900. Hundreds of used books and numerous baked goods were donated to the not-for-profit organization to sell to raise money for abused, neglected and abandoned animals. Thirty dollars was raised at the lemonade stand that was run by nine-year-old Lily Hicks and Monica Piotrowski raised $130 volunteering her time reading angel cards.
Roy and Cher’s Book and Bake Sale was very successful. The rain held and the day was busier than anticipated. An adoption tent was set up in the shade and several kittens and adult cats were on display. “The adoption tent was constantly filled with people, but unfortunately no one was interested in adopting,” explained Angie Parker, Director of Operations. “But we still raised awareness of the programs offered by Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue.”
Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue is a network of fosters throughout Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec. Since July 1, 2013 the organization has assisted eight dogs, 19 guinea pigs, two equine, one rabbit and 114 cats. Roy and Cher’s Spay and Neuter Program has spayed, neutered and vaccinated over 40 feral cats throughout Stormont and Glengarry.
Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue would like to thank its volunteers who made its 3rd Annual Book and Bake Sale a success, and to those who generously donated baked goods and used books and other items. Special thanks to volunteers Danielle Rivard, Stacie King, Anastasia Nikolakakis, Donna Parker, George Parker, Bernadette Wylie, Jessie Fournier, Amanda Hicks, Lily Hicks, Monica Piotrowski, Yulia Selivanova, Mathieu Chassé, Donna Mackey, Hannah Magoon and Dianne Manser-Wallace. Also thank you to Robertson Custom Cabinetry and Fine Woodworking for loaning a tent for the day.
Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue is run entirely by volunteers and depends on public donations. The organization currently needs horse care volunteers. The next fundraiser is a yard sale at the Cornwall Legion on Sunday, August 16. For more information, please email contact Roy and Cher's Animal Rescue.

$740 Raised for Animals
PRESS RELEASE
Lancaster, ON – Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue hosted its 2nd Annual Book and Bake in conjunction with Lancaster’s Village Yard Sale. Hundreds of used books and numerous baked goods were donated to the not-for-profit organization to sell to raise money for abused, neglected and abandoned animals. Forty dollars was raised at the lemonade stand that was run by eight-year-old Lily Hicks; $700 was raised from the sales of used books, baked goods and monetary donations.
Roy and Cher’s Book and Bake Sale was very successful. “Supporters of Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue came from as far as Ottawa and Montreal,” stated Angie Parker, Founder and Director of Roy and Cher’s Animals Rescue. “It was a busy day, and very successful. Not only did we raise $740 for our Spay and Neuter Program, but we also raised awareness of the programs offered by our organization.”
Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue is a network of fosters throughout SD&G. The organization’s Spay and Neuter Program is currently under way with over 40 cats on its waiting list. Volunteers trap feral cats and release them after they have been spayed, neutered and vaccinated. This program is similar to the more commonly used term TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). “Spaying and neutering and releasing is the humane, effective approach for feral cats. After a cat colony is sterilized, the behaviours and stresses associated with mating stop and the colony’s population stabilizes.” Angie suggests that communities learn to live amongst feral cats since these cats are wild and are not adoptable. “If feral cats are euthanized instead of released back into their territory, it is likely that other feral cats will move into the area. Humans and feral cats have lived amongst one another for 10,000 years.”
If people are concerned about the well-being of feral cats in their neighbourhood, Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue recommends that the residents build shelters for these cats and provide them with water and food. Many people throughout SD&G already care for feral cats and have happily accepted them into their community. “What’s most important is that these animals are sterilized to stabilize the colony’s population.”
Stray cats that are friendly are placed on Roy and Cher’s adoption list. Feral cats differ from stray cats as the latter is typically a domestic cat that has been abandoned or has strayed from home and become lost.
Roy and Cher’s Spay and Neuter Program runs until the end of October, but is currently not able to assist anymore cats, other than those on its waiting list. “The program is full for 2014, but will resume spring 2015,” explained Angie. “We just do not have the funds or enough volunteers to assist anymore cats this year. As much as I would love to have all of the stray and feral cats spayed and neutered, it is just not possible right now.” The organization has so far raised $1468 for its program and is still in needs of more funds.
Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue would like to thank its volunteers who made its 2nd Annual Book and Bake Sale a success, and those who generously donated baked goods and used books. Special thanks to volunteers Lynda Brunet, Rebecca Fourney, Amanda Hicks, Lily Hicks, Joanne Lemoing, Anastasia Nikolakakis, Donna Parker, George Parker, Jennifer Perry, Stephanie Retreta and Georgina Wallace.
Since the organization’s inception July 2013, over 40 animals have been assisted: guinea pigs, rabbits, cats, dogs and horses. Roy and Cher’s Animal Rescue is run entirely by volunteers and depends on public donations.

A FOREVER HOME!!
Wednesday, March 26, 2014
Arejay (now called Bumper) arrived at his forever home Wednesday evening.
"Bumper is very happy. And so is Sam [Bumper's mom]. He is very silly and loves to play. Good thing is, he also loves to sleep, so he doesn't run around at night. He seems to be quite happy. He has a very loud purr and he plays fetch with a tennis ball. Too funny."-- Kim (Bumper's grandmother)

KITTY WANTS TO BE A GUINEA PIG!
Tuesday, February 4, 2014
Bibitte is constantly found snoozing in the guinea pig cage with her house mates Oliver and Shaggy. Cats are generally uninterested in attacking adult guinea pigs, but it's best to keep your cat away from baby piggies. Oliver and Shaggy ran and hid when the camera came out. Guess they didn't want to admit that they like to cuddle with a cat...
BOWLING FOR THE ANIMALS!
Monday, January 27, 2014

LEIA LEE HAS BEEN RELOCATED...
Monday, January 6, 2014
The roof of the rescue farm barn collapsed Christmas Day around noon. Leia Lee is fine. She was in the arena at the time of the collapse. And our animal care volunteers got out just before it happened. Everyone is ok. Sad and shaken by the whole ordeal. We have relocated Leia to a neighbour's farm. Thank you to our neighbours who were there with us on Christmas Day and to those who assisted with trailering Leia and moving all her hay and shavings to the other barn.
MEET BERRY
Wednesday, December 8, 2013
Meet Berry! She was found on the weekend shivering and wet from the cold rain in the wee hours of the morning. She is currently being cared for by Francine, one of our animal care volunteers. Berry goes to the vet soon for a check-up and to be spayed. Would you like to sponsor her?
WELCOME LEIA LEE!
On Saturday we welcomed Leia Lee, a 16 year-old Standardbred mare. Rumour has it she was a racehorse during her early years and then a broodmare for quite some time. She was sent to auction and would have been sent for slaughter until a caring lady named Donna paid her bail and had her sent to a horse rescue farm. A few weeks later Donna transferred Leia to us with the kind assistance of Kirk and Tammy Killeen who trailered Leia to Roy and Cher's Rescue Farm.
She arrived skittish, head shy and skinny. On Sunday we began assessing her and started working on her head confidence. She is a sweet and beautiful girl. A little nervous, but we don't blame her. She is sensitive around her muzzle and we can guess that her lips may have been pinched. Not a life for a horse. Not a life for anyone really.
She is safe and now spoiled being the only horse in the barn. The dogs are so curious, yet Leia is not interested in them.
Leia Lee is looking for a sponsor. Please contact us if interested: [email protected]

IT'S NOT ALWAYS HAPPY TIMES
Friday, October 4, 2013
It's not always happy times at Roy and Cher's Rescue Farm. Two weeks ago it was a very stressful weekend for the Farm's animal rescue team. We lost the opportunity to rescue a puppy with behavioural issues. Operating an animal rescue farm means celebrating rescues, but it also means wiping away sadness tears. We did what we could with the resources that were available to us. PLEASE please spread the word about Roy and Cher's Rescue Farm and our need for funding and volunteers to help us focus our time and energy on rescuing ALL types of animals with ALL types of behaviour. We strive to give them all a second chance at life, while providing them with comfortable and loving homes. Donate on our website or like us on Facebook and share our page.

MORE GUINEA PIGS!
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Who would have thought that TWO of the guinea pigs that we rescued a few months ago would be pregnant? It had been obvious that Maggie was, but we had no clue that her daughter Molly was also pregnant. Kristyn, Molly's new mom, sent us this photo of one of Molly's babies. So cute.
BIG THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!!
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Volunteers helped cut down cedar trees from a llama enclosure at a friend's farm this morning. The trunks were cut to be used for fence posts for the horse pasture at Roy and Cher's Rescue Farm. We cut down a total of 12 trees. In 2014 we will plant 12 trees in several locations to replace the trees we removed from the earth.

BUSY DAY AT THE FARM
Monday, July 29, 2013
It was a busy (and rainy!) day yesterday at the Farm. We brought home five guinea pigs, gave them some fresh hay and water and clean cages. Three are ready for adoption or foster home. The adult female appears to be pregnant. Go to our "Rescues" page to see these cuties!
The brush infront of the barn has been cut down (just needs to be cleared away). It's now a wonderfully clear view from the double stall out to the pasture. Progress!!! :)

FARM VISIT
Tuesday, July 16, 2013
So Angie, Kim, and Mat headed out to check out a farm that we are hoping to purchase this past Saturday. Not bad, a lot of space, but it will need some work to get it all in order. We will see what happens. As well, we held our first Board of Directors meeting, which was fruitful, and we got much accomplished. A lot of work to do. Don't forget our Book n Bake sale @ Berrigan's in Lancaster, Ontario this Saturday!!!
