Leia Lee
Standardbred Mare
DOB: Approx. September 1997
Leia Lee was brought to us after being rescued from being slaughtered for meat. She was nervous, but we started working with her immediately using natural horsemanship techniques. It didn't take long for her to gain our trust. Once headshy, she now loves kisses on her face.
Leia was used as a racehorse and broodmare for much of her life. She is enjoying her retirement being spoiled by the animal care team at a foster home in Dalhousie, Quebec. Leia is a great ambassador for animal rights and is part of our Education Program.
An overwhelming number of "retired" or injured racehorses in North America are sent for slaughter in Canada and Mexico, most of them at a very young age. Not much of a life for a horse. It's very sad. We do not support the race industry. Click here to find out more about the horrors of horse racing.
